Tshuma Stingers Pave Their Way Into The Second Round

Tshuma Stingers| Tries: Mxolisi Hlophe(2) Simbarashe Chadya, Nathan Kok (2), Vuyo Bacela, Innocent Mokoena & Chandie Chadya. ​​Tshuma Stingers claimed victory in their last match of the first round in the Golden Lions Senior Grand Challenge, claiming a thrilling 52-17 win over Alexandra Wolves in Soweto. Lofty Tyebileyo’ side got back to winning ways against a spirited Alexandra outfit. At kick off Nathan Kok won the high ball and ensured a go forward for the Stingers who quickly took the ball into the oppositions’ half. The Wolves sneaked out of the red zone following a high tackle penalty in their favour. Shortly thereafter Stingers won possession and applied pressure onto the Wolves by camping in their half. After a quick set of hands the Stingers cruised back into the Wolves’ red zone. An early attempt to pick up the scoreboard by the Stingers was stopped as a result of a knock on to give Alexandra a bit of relief. Stingers opened the scoring 8 minutes into the game through a Nathan Kok converted try, after a successful line out and a well-executed backline move which saw the General Malusi Mkize running through the opposition’s defensive line and finding Kok to finish off the offense.  [7-0] A couple of minutes later, the Captain Simbarashe Chadya picked the ball at the base of the scrum to force his way over the try line right underneath the posts for an easy conversion. [14-0] Alexandra Wolves fought back and scored a try to get onto the score board in the first half. Twenty minutes in play Vuyo Bacela crossed the whitewash, Innocent Mokoena followed suit and Nathan Kok managed to strike again and took his last share of tries as the clock raced for half time.

In an explosive second-half, Mxolisi Hlophe scored the first try with Alexandra Wolves replying a few moments later by scoring a converted try. [38-12] Hlophe recoded double digits on his points for the day when he hit back again crossing the whitewash for the second time. [45-12] A yellow card saw Stingers reduced down to 14 men and Alexandra Wolves immediately capitalised on this. After building up pressure, Alexandra broke the Stingers defence and crossed at the corner for their final try of the day. [45-17] With the game heading towards the last 5 minutes of play, Chandie Chadya got a loose ball and put his name on the scoresheet. The front rower showed good strength as he muscled his way over the line. [52-17] Tshuma Stingers captain, Simbarashe Chadya: “We knew this Alexandra side would turn up and give us a good test, but we are happy to have created a good momentum going into the top 4.”
