Tshuma Stingers fight to win the day experiences turbulence

Tshuma Stingers suffered their first loss on Saturday 25 May 2019 in Midrand when they hosted the new comers, Union Bulldogs Rugby club who joined the Senior Grand Challenge following their move from the top League Pirates Grand Challenge.

It was a frantic opening 10 minutes to the game. Tshuma Stingers were put to the test early in the first half with the hosts forced to spend time in their half defending. With ball possession the visitors managed to create opportunities to pick up the scoreboard. The first points came after ten minutes, with Bulldogs opening with a try. A conversion added the extras to take Bulldogs into an early 7- 0 lead.

Opportunities for Stingers to flourish were marred by slow balls in the link between the backs and forwards amongst other open play errors. With the clock ticking towards half-time, Tshuma Stingers set pieces could not produce the desired outcome. Union Bulldogs continued to pile pressure and muscled their way over the line to extend their lead with yet another try to make it 12 points.

The Stingers had a great start of the second half but that also did not produce points for the Midrand Giants. The visitors were quick to recycle possession at the breakdowns and applied pressure with quick hands from left to right to bring them once again next to a striking position. Following a series of passes the Bulldogs found their way over to score their final try to win the day. Tshuma Stingers paid a heavy price as their aim to have an unbeaten season slipped away.

“The focus now shifts to reenergising the team to ensure that we collect maximum points for our upcoming games against Hartbeespoort on Saturday 8 June and Alexandra Rugby Club on 15 June,” said the Founder and CEO Mr Ndumiso Tshuma.
